Antiques Roadshow Appraisal of 1908 "Anne of Green Gables" First Edition

Antiques Roadshow Appraisal of Guest's 1908 Anne of Green Gables First Edition

On this week's episode of Antiques Roadshow on PBS (May 15, 2006, filmed in Providence, Rhode Island, Hour 2, Episode #1014), a guest brought in an old copy L.M. Montgomery's Anne of Green Gables from her attic. She explained that when her daughter was young, they discovered the Anne of Green Gables series on PBS and fell in love with the story. She and her daughter read the book, and then she found an old edition at a flea market for $5.00, and bought it thinking it was "perfect."

Appraiser Francis J. Wahlgren examined and described the history of the book, which he identified as a first edition. Wahlgren appraised the book at $12,000-$18,000. It was a lovely surprise to the guest who learned her copy of Anne of Green Gables was a real treasure.
