Last week, Kristi Yamaguchi spoke about her life after figure skating with Michael Rothman in an article at Good Morning America.
Kristi Yamaguchi is an acclaimed figure skater. During her competitive career, Yamaguchi won the gold medal at the 1992 Winter Olympic Games in Albertville, France. She was the World figure skating champion in 1991 and 1992, and she was the 1992 U.S. champion.
After retiring from competition, Kristi Yamaguchi got married and became a mother to two daughters. She also became an author. In 2011, Yamaguchi wrote a children's book titled Dream Big, Little Pig, which was a bestseller that won the Gelett Burgess Children's Book Award. In addition, Yamaguchi is a philanthropist. She founded the Always Dream Foundation to promote early childhood literacy.
In the article, Kristi Yamaguchi talks about her love of reading and mentions Anne of Green Gables.
In reflecting on her experiences reading as a child, Yamaguchi says, "My love for reading has always been a big part of me. I remember at that 'tween' age, reading was this magical escape for me. When I was growing up, we didn’t have tablets and phones, we had maybe Atari. For entertainment, that was my getaway." She continued saying, "On long road trips, plane rides, or even my brother's baseball games, a book -- my favorites are 'Charlotte's Web' and the 'Anne of Green Gables' series -- was always something great to have on hand."
I enjoyed reading the article and learning about Kristi Yamaguchi's life and goals after figure skating. It was special to learn that one of my favorite skaters is a fan of the Anne of Green Gables series too.
